My Makeup Story

Sunday, 31 July 2016

I wanted to do this tag after seeing the wonderful Courtney doing, as I loved reading through hers and thought I'd share my makeup story with you from over the years...

How old were you when you started wearing makeup?
The first time I ever started experimenting with makeup I must have been 12 or 13. I remember picking up a blue mascara from Primark one time with my friends (what was I thinking), and wearing that a few times. I also had a clear mascara that my Mum bought me from Avon, and a Rimmel Stay Matte powder that I used to cover my face in. I also remember being about 13 and having the Maybelline Matte Mousse, which was just a complete disaster (I'm sure you'll all remember).

How did you get into makeup?
I remember just getting to an age where I became interested in my appearance for the first time, and used makeup to experiment with that. Most of my friends were wearing foundation and stuff as well and I wanted to join the club. Since then my love for makeup has just grown!

What are some of your favourite brands?
I like quite a variety of brands to be honest, a good mixture of drugstore and high end. I think my favourite drugstore brands have to be Soap & Glory and NYX. I'm so happy that NYX made their way over to the UK as I love absolutely I own by them. Soap & Glory never fail to deliver as well. High end wise, I do love Urban Decay but who doesn't? Also I'm slowly discovering NARS, so probably them too.

What does makeup mean to you?
It just makes me happy to be honest, I just like owning it. I always enjoy putting it on in the morning and I actually like to take some pride in it haha. Its helped me to hide blemishes that I don't want people to see, and get rid of those stupid dark circles I have (shout out to you concealer).

If you could only wear four products on your face, what would they be?
Seventeen Stay Time Concealer, holy grail concealer to be honest and I couldn't live without it. Soap & Glory Solar Powder, such a brilliant bronzer to warm up my super pale face. Benefit Roller Lash mascara because that stuff is just the bomb. And right now it'd have to be my Tanya Burr Enchanted Dream palette.

What is your favourite thing about makeup?
Its just so enjoyable to apply, I always take my time (when I'm not late) and its just a fun process really. I also just love owning it and talking about it on my blog. I guess its a good 'hobby' to have, at least I'm collecting makeup and not doing drugs or something haha.

What do you think of drugstore vs high end makeup?
High end makeup does tend to be better, BUT not always. I started using drugstore makeup and I still love it to this day. Most the makeup I own/use is from Boots so it must be half decent. If you look in the right places, you can find some real gems in the drugstore.

What is the one makeup trend you've never understood?
I understand them all to be honest, but extreme contouring doesn't quite suit me so I've never tried it and keep it subtle. But apart from that, go wild do what ya like!

I tag everyone to do this as it was just so much fun!

  1. This was great! We just got NYX in Australia but I never know what to buy because it all looks so good!

I also agree I'm not one for massive contouring- I also don't have the skill level haha I think I'd just resemble a clown if I tried!
