Disappointing Products

disappointing products, nivea, too faced, rimmel, beauty, makeup, forever september, beauty blogger, lifestyle blogger

I don't like being too negative about products, but sometimes theres products that I just can't get on with!

The first disappointing product, is the L'Oreal True Match Foundation. I had high hopes for this foundation, after so many bloggers raving about it. I knew they changed the formulation and re-did the packaging. However, the reason this is disappointing is because it clings to my dry patches of skin so bad. I have dry skin around my nose that won't budge whatever I do, and this foundation loves to just gather around those patches, therefore I can't really use it. My second disappointing product, is the new Rimmel Brow Shake Filling Powder. A new release to the beauty world, with lots of bloggers talking about it, I decided to give it a go. Its a great concept, but the reason I dislike this is because it kinda goes everywhere. Because its a powder it smudges really easily, and I manage to get it under my brows and ugh, its a pain. It might just be me and my precision, but its not quick or easy enough to be using on a day to day basis.

I'm quite sad about the fact I've got two Too Faced products in this, as I actually really love them as a brand. However, the Too Faced White Chocolate Chip Palette, just didn't do it for me. I've written a whole review on it here, but in short the pigmentation isn't great and it was just underwhelming, especially for a Too Faced palette. Another disappointing Too Faced product is their Better Than Sex Mascara. This is another cult favourite, but I just couldn't get on with it. Purely because it gave me such bad panda eyes, and I hate that. By the end of the day, most of it was underneath my eyes and just nah, who has time for that?!

Lastly, a non makeup product but a skincare one. The Nivea Light Moisturising Day Cream. I'd used this before, and quite liked it but it was nothing special. So I repurchased, but this time the one aimed at normal and combination skin. I used this before putting on my makeup, and this was a bad mistake. It makes my skin SO oily and my makeup is practically falling off my face throughout the day when I use this. So its a no from me!

What products have disappointed you recently?

  1. I know what you mean about the true match foundation, when I have dry skin it really does cling to it, I love it when I'm having good skin days though! x

  3. It's interesting to see how different products work for different people. I adore the Too Faced mascara. Perhaps wait until it dries a little?

  4. I always find it super interesting to find what products some people didn't agree with! It actually makes it more helpful for me to see the negatives aswell as the positives! xx

  5. It is funny because I also have dry patches and I love the L'Oréal True Match Foundation, sometimes it can make my dry patches look weird at first, but after half an hour, all I can see is a satin finish, I guess we must have a different kind of dry patches :) I really don't get on well with Nivéa, I believe I've tried this when I was younger (or at least the older version of it) and I remember that it took ages before truly penetrating the skin!

  7. I've actually not used any of these products - I've always wanted to try the Better Than Sex mascara and never justified the spend, definitely doubting it now. Was also tempted by the Brow product but will look at other products instead.

Loveeee the photography though, it's gorge!

    1. It seems to work for so many people, it just never has for me unfortunately - and I'd definitely look elsewhere for brow products, the rimmel one isn't all its cracked up to be!

  8. I've heard a lot of negative reviews about that Too Faced palette, which is such a disappointment as I usually love their eye shadows!

  9. I totally agree about the better than sex mascara! It made my lashes super clumpy and black all over. I keep trying to use it because I feel like I'm missing something since EVERYONE loves it! Great post!

  11. I loved reading this and definitely agree with the Too Faced mascara and the L'Oreal foundation, although my problem with the foundation was it looked amazing when first applied, but then seemed to last literally an hour.

  12. I love when bloggers write these posts because they're the most honest reviews! I did however enjoy the True Match foundation in the past. It was my holy grail drugstore foundation! It was quickly replaced by the Maybelline Fit Me foundation eventually. I was really intrigued by the Rimmel brow powder since so many bloggers were raving about it. Now I'm not so sure if I want to bother trying it.

    1. Me too, its always good to hear about the more disappointing products as well as the great ones - but the brow powder isn't all its cracked up to be, there are so many better brow products on the market!

  15. Yeah, I totally agree with you. The Too Faced Better Tahn Sex mascara, is extremely disappointing. After a week of using it as per normal, it started drying out super fast for me.

  18. I love that you wrote about some not so great products as I always get hung up on the "best of the best" that I forget to cover the stinkers :) I swear that the Too Faced has changed formulation because I don't remember it ever flaking as bad as it did on me last time I purchased it.

I just purchased a sample size of It Cosmetics CC Cream... and just fell out of love with it. It also seems to cling to any dry patches on my skin and while it's full coverage it just doesn't seem to last as long as my go to Estee Lauder foundaiton. xo

  19. It's quite refreshing to read a post about products that have been disappointing, I think I may have to do one of these as well! Such a shame about the Too Faced products because I love them as a brand. I've always been quite hesitant to purchase the Better Than Sex mascara, just because the wand looks too fat for me and I feel like it would go everywhere - as you've said it did on you! Great post xo

  20. True Match is great if you're having a good skin day but have to agree it definitely clings to the dry areas.
