A Few Tips To Help Grow Your Blog

A nice unrelated photo of cakes above, but who doesn't love cake?!

Today I won't be talking about cakes (sadly), but about growing your blog. I've been blogging for three years now, so I mean I think I've been here long enough to pick up a few tips on how to grow your blog. When I first started up this little space on the internet, I didn't have a clue where it would go, or how long I'd even be blogging for! But I'm so happy I'm still here, blogging today and really engaging in the community. So lets talk through a few things I've learnt over the years, to help grow your blog!

Promote your posts
Its great to have your blog, and be writing on it regularly but you want people to see it and read it. The best way to do this, is by promoting posts via Twitter, Instagram, Facebook etc. I personally find Twitter the best platform to help promote posts, and well engage with other bloggers. There are accounts such as '@FemaleBloggerRT', who will retweet your posts, which will get you onto other bloggers timeline and you can all read one another's posts, how fab!

Join in with Twitter chats
I'll be honest, I didn't have a clue what a Twitter chat was until last year. There are chats going on all the time in the blogging community, some of my favourites being the #BlogosphereChat and #TheGirlGang chat. The Blogosphere chat takes place at 8pm on a Sunday evening, and The Girl Gang chat happens at 6pm on a Monday. They cover different topics every week, and it gives you a chance to interact with other bloggers and share your links.

Think about your titles
I am absolutely no expert when it comes to SEO, but I do know that the choice of title really helps. Posts with titles such as '5 things/ways/......' are always good. They're more likely to come up on search engines and stuff like that. I mean, I definitely don't stick to this all the time, because I mean you can't always have titles that are great for SEO can ya?! You've gotta keep it personal too!

Make your photography eye catching
I don't know about you, but the first thing that entices me into reading a blog post, is the photography. I think its good to keep the photography clean, and simple. Well, this is if you're photographing products of course. A busy background can often distract the eye from the product you're talking about, so keeping it simple(ish) is always a good idea!

So there we have a few tips I have learnt over the three years I've been blogging. I hope this is helpful for anybody trying to grow their blog, or is just getting started. Please remember, I am no expert and these tips are from my personal experiences.

What tips do you have for growing your blog?

  1. Well done for sticking with blogging for 3 years, so many people start and then just never see it through so I'll definitely take your advice :)

I think you made a great point about not always having SEO-optimised titles, blogs full of '10 ways to' posts can end up seeming a bit click-baity and robotic so it's important to have some more 'organic' titles too! Twitter chats are by far my favourite way to gain new readers and discover new blogs for me to read too!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  4. Lovely tips! I'm really bad when it comes to coming up with the good titles for SEO and I also agree: pictures are the first thing I look at, even before reading the title and clicking on the post!

  14. I've just started caring about my blog'd photographs... it's a bit late on the bandwagon (I know) but, better later than never, right?

I've seen many Twitter chats, but have yet to take part in any. Maybe I should make that a June goal!

  18. Twitter chats are a great way to promote, without promoting your content too necessarily! I find taking the time to read other's posts and commenting (like this!) can really help too. Danielle || Miss Danielle
