Its approximately 4 weeks until I jet off to the south of Spain for a week and honestly, I can’t wait. With it being a family holiday, I don’t assume we’ll get up to much, so in my head I’ve scheduled in a lot of lying by the pool and reading. I thought I’d share three books I’ll be taking with me to keep me busy whilst I’m soaking up mediterranean sunshine.
01. HEAVENWARD BY OLGA GIBBS
Olga Gibbs, the lovely author of this book, contacted me asking if I’d like to give this a read. Of course I said yes, because I’d never turn down a good book. This is a story about a young girl named Ariel, who had a childhood filled with domestic violence, neglect, abuse and the recurring nightmare that plagues her every night, for as long as she remembers, questioning her sanity, and a secret, which she doesn’t want anyone to know and is so desperately to forget herself. I’ve read a few pages of this and I know that I’m going to love it, its right up my street.
02. THE ART OF BEING NORMAL BY LISA WILLIAMSON
This is a book I’ve had for absolutely ages but haven’t gotten round to reading it. Its about two young boys from two totally different walks of life and they form an unlikely friendship. This leads them to realise they have more in common than they originally thought. I’m really excited to read this, as its a completely different type of teen fiction that I’m used to and I think its brilliant for young readers, as its not your typical boy, girl romance.
03. NOTES ON A NERVOUS PLANET BY MATT HAIG
I am so excited about this book. I absolutely love Matt Haig and really enjoyed his book ‘Reasons To Stay Alive’, so I knew I had to read this too. Essentially, its about how we are encouraged to worry about everything these days. Also about his own mental health experiences, with positive affirmations in there and just general chit chat about how we live as a society today. I’ve read a little bit of this already and I’m loving it so far and can’t wait to finish it!
