Ahh, the palette of dreams. I was very lucky to receive this beauty for Christmas and it’d be rude for me not to blog about it right?! Originally, I was looking at getting the Volume 4 palette but after some convincing from Lily, I opted for the Unlocked palette. I’m so glad I did because I know I’m going to get use out of all the shades.
The palette is comprised of six powders. You have two finishing powders in the top left, a bronze shade in the top right, two blushers in the bottom left and a highlighter in the bottom right. So you’ve got every type of powder you could possibly need for your face in this palette, which is perfect for travelling. I must say, when I first saw it, I was surprised at the size. For some reason I thought it’d be a little bigger but its not really an issue as the pan sizes are still very generous.
The only other slight negative I have to say about this, is the actual packaging itself. For the price point, I did think it’d be a bit more luxurious and heavy, however it feels quite plastic-y. This is a bit of a shame but I think the powders themselves make up for this.
The powders themselves are very finely milled and you barely even need to touch the pan to get a decent amount on your brush. This is a huge bonus, as it means they’re going to last a long time (as they should for the price). I think my favourite powder in the palette has to be the bronzer, ‘Golden Bronze Light’. I’ve been using my trusty Benefit Hoola Bronzer for years now, so this makes a nice change. It has quite an ashy tone to it, which is perfect for my pale complexion. As for the blushers, out of the two in the palette, I seem to be reaching more for the middle one. It gives a beautiful subtle pink glow, which I’m all about.
Lets talk about the highlighter shall we? Well, I’m smitten. It’s the perfect tone for my skin, not too light, not too dark. It has the perfect amount of shimmer and of course, no chunks of glitter. I mean, if it did I’d be highly disappointed due to the price. As for the finishing powders, well its hard to comment on these. They definitely don’t totally mattify your face, but I think they set down my foundation and concealer quite nicely. I’ll still use them, but my focus is definitely on the bronzer, blusher and highlighter.
Overall, I’m super happy with this palette. Although its quite the luxury, if you’re looking to treat yourself or have someone else treat you, I’d highly recommend this palette. Especially if you’re someone who travels frequently as well, as you have everything in one place.
Have you ever tried anything from Hourglass?
