I’m sure like many people, I have found lockdown pretty difficult. Being stuck within the same four walls all the time can get a bit tedious and frustrating. So I thought I’d share 5 shows I’ve watched that brought me some joy.
Of course this is top of my list and I’m sure you’ve probably heard the hype around it. Normal People is based off the book by Sally Rooney and follows the complex relationship of teenagers Marianne and Connell. I’m not going to spoil anything, its one of those things you just need to watch. However, I think its so beautifully done and honestly, had me in tears a fair few times. Hands down one of the best things I’ve watched in a very long time. You can watch Normal People on BBC iPlayer.
the great british sewing bee
On a lighter note, The Great British Sewing Bee. My Mum and I have been watching this for years, basically the sewing equivalent of The Great British Bake Off. Presented by Joe Lycett, with Patrick Grant and Esme Young as judges, there are 3 tasks a week and one person gets sent home at the end. Honestly I thought Bake Off with stressful but this seems so much worse hahah. This is just easy watching and lighthearted fun. You can catch this on BBC One at 9pm every Wednesday.
joe lycett’s got your back
Joe Lycett is really killing the game at the moment. His latest endeavour is a show where he serves consumer justice and its hilarious. He has no boundaries and really does whatever it takes to get justice for people who have been scammed or have been f*cked over by companies. Some of it is ridiculous but very funny. You can catch it on Channel 4 at 8pm every Friday.
grayson’s art club
This programme reminds me of being a kid and watching Art Attack. Hosted by the one and only Grayson Perry, he takes submissions from the general public, of which his favourites go into an exhibition that he will be holding (I assume once this is all over). He also speaks to celebrities over Zoom and they show art they’ve been creating during lockdown too. Very calming to watch and a good bit of fun. You can catch it on Channel 4 at 8pm every Monday.
its always sunny in philadelphia
A show thats been running since 2005 and I’ve never really gotten round to watching until now, thanks to a recommendation. I love shows like How I Met Your Mother, Friends, Brooklyn 99 etc so I was bound to enjoy this too. The best word to describe Always Sunny is chaotic. Almost nothing makes sense, all 5 of the characters are completely messed up but its just so funny. There are 14 seasons of this, so it will definitely keep you busy for some time. All seasons are available to watch on Netflix.
